A new report by Amadeus found that 71% of business travellers from emerging economies travelled for a combination of business and leisure – compared to only 42% of business travellers from developed countries such as the UK who would combine the two.

Business travellers from emerging economies are more likely to combine their work trips with a holiday, according to research from technology firm Amadeus.

The latest report commissioned by Amadeus, entitled “From Chaos to Collaboration”, looks at how technology will affect both business and leisure travellers over the next decade.

It found that 71% of business travellers from emerging economies travelled for a combination of business and leisure – compared to only 42% of business travellers from developed countries such as the UK who would combine the two.

Amadeus said that the emergence of the ‘business tourist’ would be one of the six key trends in the travel industry that it has identified over the next few years.

The report said that there could be a “reinvention” of business travel if there is a decline in the number of business trips as they would become “more special and valued” and employers would be more willing to allow staff to mix business with pleaure.
