How Triptrotting wants to revolutionize travel and its antiquated business model

July 17, 2012 | Online Travel

Social travel site Triptrotting.com has emerged as “The #1 International Like-minded Travel Community” according to members in 2,000+ cities, backers Joe Kraus of Google Ventures, Bill Gross of Idealab, and other investors. Read how the company aims to revolutionize the travel industry.

By many accounts, Travel is one of the largest industries in the world. International tourist arrivals are expected to surpass 1 billion in 2012 and online travel companies like Priceline and Expedia now have market capitalizations of $32.2 billion and $5.8 billion, respectively.

According to Google Ventures’ Partner Joe Kraus, “Social networking around specific interests and activities is becoming more important as people create interest graphs around like-minded people.”

For decades the way we traveled remained very much the same: book a flight, find a hotel, listen to your iPod, join a “guided tour”, take a few pictures and go home.

Aigerim Shorman, Triptrotting Co-Founder, spoke during the latest Travel 2.0 Meetup in New York City about revolutionizing the travel industry and its antiquated business model.
