Qantas launches ‘Hooroo’ hotel booking and social travel site

July 18, 2012 | Online Travel

The website will harness social media accounts to suggest Australian holiday destinations and accommodation to users. Hooroo will operate as a separate company within the Qantas group.

According to Qantas, the move to launch a website around social media travel stories comes in response to recent data from Tourism Australia, which showed that around 73 per cent of Facebook users brag about holidays using Facebook, while another 20 per cent use Facebook for inspiration on future holiday destinations.

“The current online travel agent market consists of undifferentiated, purely functional competitors. The Hooroo team wants travellers to discover a better way to uncover and book their next adventure,” Hooroo executive manager Simon Chamberlain said.

Hooroo will operate as a separate company within the Qantas group, despite both of the company’s major airlines – Qantas and Jetstar – offering a similar service on their websites as early as 2011.
