What EU business travelers are saying about their travel today

Egencia’s Business Traveler Survey asked nearly 900 European corporate travelers about their preferences and experiences from their time on the road. Respondents comprised of a mix of frequent travelers, regular travelers and occasional travelers, between the ages of 21 to 60+.

The average European business traveler:

- Is male
- Aged between 31-50
- Travels once or twice a month
- Flies Economy class
- Mainly works in Senior Management, Sales or Technology

Key Findings

- Friendliest Airports: Respondents identified Paris Charles de Gaulle as the airport that’s the friendliest to corporate travellers, followed by Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and Munich Airport.

- Most Important Air Travel Extras: To improve their air travel experience, corporate travellers cited more leg-room, avoiding the middle seat, and moving to the front of the security line as the most desirable extras.

- In-Flight Conversations: The most common tactic used to avoid unwanted in-flight conversations is to read a book or magazine.

- Condensed Travel: 48% of respondents condense their travel time into a single day to avoid hotel charges.

- Desired Standard Amenities: When travellers were asked what they wished hotels would provide as a standard amenity for corporate travellers, they identified mobile/MP3/computer chargers (59%) as the number one item followed by toothpaste (50%), voltage converters (44%) and slippers (32%).

- Little Luxuries: 40% of respondents identified use of the swimming pool as the one little luxury they take advantage of during their hotel stay, as well as
the use of the spa and fitness centre. Using the in-room coffee/tea maker and sightseeing are also little luxuries that make a difference.

- Travel Pet Peeves: Respondents identified airport security restrictions and procedures (60%), as the number one pet peeve, followed by time away from their home and family (48%), carrying/ packing business equipment (laptop, chargers, folders, etc.) (31%), and filing expense reports afterwards (28%).
